Merkaz Habama Opens at the Gerard Behar Center

Merkaz Habama, an avant-garde monodramas festival that receives support from the Jerusalem Foundation, opened at the Gerard Behar Center with “How to Be Happy in 10 Steps,”, a musical “dramedy” modeled on the self-help genre.

The guru starts off the evening promising you the path to happiness – simple steps, like “stop thinking, stop going out, stop loving.”  Each step is accompanied by a monologue and a song that blends philosophy with dark comedy, musing on the nature of love, partying, pondering, speaking – all activities that bind the human existence.

As the guru sinks deeper into a depression with each step,  he swigs more alcohol and decides there is really only one place to go – but I’ll leave that to your imagination, because I don’t want to ruin the ending in case you decide to see this play for yourselves – it is definitely worth watching!
