New Artistic Director at Artists’ Studios-Art Cube

Leah Abir has been named the new artistic director of Artists’ Studios – Art Cube Gallery.

Supported by the Jerusalem Foundation, The Artists' Studios is Jerusalem's leading artist workshop center that provides artists with a safe and positive working environment that will keep them creating in the city. The Art Cube Gallery, located within the Artists' Studios, is a space where resident artists can display their work.

In her new role, Abir will direct the studios’ artistic committee, which invites artists to work at the center. She will also lead a number of projects including the gallery curatorial program, the Swiss and international artist-in-residence programs, the Israeli and international exchange programs and various open studios events.

The new artistic director will be the point person for professional visitors and potential donors as well as work alongside Lee He Shulov, the venue’s general manager.

Abir’s background as a curator, writer and content advisor in the field of contemporary art has prepared her for her current role. Over the past three years, she has worked as the associate curator and director of programming for MoBY - Museums of Bat Yam, where she organized exhibitions, public programs and events. She has independently curated exhibitions at various galleries and museums throughout Israel, and has written extensively on contemporary art for various international publications and exhibition catalogs.

Abir replaces Nirith Nelson, who departed the post after several years of shepherding the center to prominence on the international art scene.
