International Puppet Festival Continues to Wow Audiences

Sunday night saw the magical opening of The International Festival of Puppet Theater Jerusalem, supported by the Jerusalem Foundation.  Spectators crowded into the Koret Liberty Bell Garden outdoor amphitheater to enjoy a taste of the wonderful treats on offer in this year's festival.

Hosted by a hilarious double act together with a static female mannequin, the evening was off to a good start well before  the performances began.  All based on this year's theme, Variations on Love, the eight performances came from Israel and around the world.  Highlights included a piece from England's famous Punch and Judy and Namer Golan's (Israel), Mickey Mouse and the Horrifyng Alien.  It was particularly exciting to see Golan perform as not only did he have the audience in hysterics, but he is a product of the theater's latest 'incubator' project, which nurtures talented emerging performers giving them a forum to experiment with puppetry.

Following the performances guests enjoyed cocktails and refreshments in the Koret Liberty Bell Garden – a perfect end to a perfect evening and a great start to this week's festivities.
