Garden Melodies Fill Jerusalem's Spring Evenings

The community gardens network in Jerusalem is strong and growing. On May 15th, about 100 people, adults and children, gathered in the Chorsha Park in the Arnona neighborhood, part of the Garden Melodies Festival, sponsored by the Jerusalem Foundation.

Old and young came together to celebrate in the community garden and enjoy a beautiful spring afternoon, peppered with the unusual and beckoning sound of Dixieland Jazz music. Organizers also arranged for a "Free Swap" of lightly used items that were contributed by the community for the event.

Neighborhood residents diligently work on this garden's development. Evidence of their labor are a large and active compost pile, a shaded sitting area constructed of palm fronds and a variety of planted flowers and shrubs.

This garden is a working example of an empowered residential community. Their dedication to this project brings beauty and creativity to the whole neighborhood.
